Senior Portrait Props with a Personal Connection
You don’t need a trunk full of props for senior photos. If there’s something you love playing, making, or doing, tell me about that. One thing that matters beats five things brought just for photos.

Bring the reason along with the object
An instrument, sports equipment, artwork, or a favorite project can say something about how you spend your time. Tell me why you want it in the photographs.
I’ve talked about wishing my own high school photos showed more of who I was then. That’s what I want you to think about: what would help you recognize this part of your life later?
Make a plan for getting it there
Let me know what you hope to bring before the session. A guitar and a large art project have very different transportation needs. Neither should have to be a surprise in the parking lot.
If it’s borrowed from a school, team, or someone else, sort out permission first. We’ll also think about where it can be used and whether it needs any setup.
Use it, then put it down
We can discuss photographs of you using the item, holding it, or including it as a detail. The location and clothing should work with the idea rather than compete with it.
You can have portraits without the prop, too. Your interests are part of you, but they don’t need to appear in every single frame. Leave some room for your expression and personality on their own.
A few things to plan
- Choose the item you care about most.
- Tell me why it matters to you.
- Discuss transport, setup, and permission.
- Plan some portraits without the prop, too.
A few questions you might have
Do I need props for senior portraits?
Nope. You, your clothing, and a setting you like are plenty to start with.
Can I bring several interests into the session?
Yes, share your ideas so we can choose what fits the time and locations.
Can my artwork or creative project be part of senior photos?
Yes! Tell me about its size and how you’d like to show it so we can plan transport and photographs.
Let’s talk about your photographs
Tell me your graduation year and the interests you’d love to include. I want to hear the reason behind your ideas. Explore my photography and approach or send an inquiry.
