After the Proposal: Give Yourselves Time for Photographs
You’ve planned how to ask. Now leave a little space for what happens after the answer. There’s no need to jump straight from a proposal into “Okay, where do we stand?”

Let the answer sink in
There might be laughing, crying, a very long hug, or a lot of words arriving all at once. You don’t need to predict the reaction. Just leave room for it.
When we plan proposal photographs, tell me what’s arranged and what’s still an idea. That helps me stay ready without turning the minutes afterward into another task for you.
Choose a few photographs you’d love
A ring detail, a portrait together, or a photograph with family can all be part of the conversation. Pick what matters to you instead of trying to cover every possible engagement announcement.
You may want a few portraits right then and a separate engagement session later. You may want to stay in the moment a little longer first. We can plan the photography around that.
Tell me about the next surprise
If loved ones are joining you or someone is bringing flowers, let me know who, where, and when. Surprises are much easier to photograph when they’re only a surprise for the person you intended.
And if dinner is booked afterward, leave time to get there. You should be able to enjoy being newly engaged without checking the clock through the entire hug.
A few things to plan
- Leave room for the first reaction.
- Choose the portraits or details you care about.
- Share any plans for family or a second surprise.
- Allow breathing room before the next reservation.
A few questions you might have
Should we pose immediately after the proposal?
Take a minute! We can plan for reactions first and portraits when you’re ready.
Can we take a ring photo afterward?
Of course, mention it when we plan so I know it matters to you.
Do we need a full engagement session immediately after a proposal?
No. You might prefer a few portraits then and a separate session later. Tell me what you have in mind.
Let’s talk about your photographs
Tell me your proposal idea and what you’re imagining afterward. We’ll make a simple plan you can actually remember. Explore my photography and approach or send an inquiry.
